If you’re a member or adherent at Westminster, we’re looking for your input about worship on Sunday mornings!
Explanation
At Westminster, we follow a ‘Reformed’ pattern of worship which is four-fold. (The term ‘Reformed’ refers to a movement within Protestant Christianity which emerged from the Reformation of the 16th century.)
This four-fold movement includes a time of gathering, a time of teaching, a response to that teaching, and a sending. These components include prayers, music, teaching and preaching from the Bible, a financial offering, special musical offerings, and the Sacraments when appropriate (Communion and Baptism).
Our elders are looking to receive some input about our worship format and style. Your feedback is appreciated. In all we do, we are Christ-centred and seek to glorify God.

The responses will be collected by elders Carolyn Trott and Steve Sainsbury.
Hard copies can be dropped at the church in the box marked ‘Worship Survey’ in the office.

4. The central component of Reformed worship is the proclamation of God’s Word. This occurs mostly in the sermon, but can include other teaching components through the service. Sermons are usually between 20 and 30 minutes. Pastor Ruttan explains a biblical text and makes applications for our lives. What is most helpful about Pastor Ruttan’s preaching style, and what is something that could be improved?
5. Over the past 10 years we have increasingly used visuals during the service. This includes a screen for lyrics, pictures, videos, sermons, congregational readings, etc. With respect to how we use the screen and media, what is working well, and what could be improved?
6. For the past several years we have had a ‘blended’ music style, meaning we have included traditional hymns and also modern praise songs. These are interspersed throughout the service. With respect to our music style and format, what is working well, and what could be improved?
7. Do you have any special musical abilities (i.e. an instrument or singing), that you would be willing to share during a service? If so, describe, and be in touch with Pastor Ruttan (since this form is anonymous).
8. We try to make worship “family-friendly.” This includes a relaxed-but-reverent atmosphere, visuals, a ‘kids time’ teaching section, familiar kids’ hymns/songs, and instruments to play. Children are also welcome at Communion. How could the service be even more “family-friendly,” if at all?
9. We value the participation of congregants in the service, whether this be providing special musical talents, reading the Bible, or answering questions. Are there any other ways the congregation could more actively contribute to the service?
10. We celebrate the Sacrament of Communion five times a year—the first Sunday in March, June, October and December, as well as Maundy Thursday. This is:

13. Our bulletin has been recently redesigned. Is there anything you’d like to see included in the bulletin which currently isn’t?
14. Before the pandemic, we occasionally held ‘Healing Services’ with music, prayer, and where people could come to the front (if they wished) to be anointed with oil and receive prayer by the pastor and some elders. If this was offered again, would you attend in person?
